Style in Simplicity

Image
Style in Simplicity When you think of a church, the images that immediately pop into mind probably include a dimly lit interior, dull brown walls, and rows upon rows of shiny wooden pews. One Dutch family, however, does not subscribe to these views. This family redecorated an old church building into this beautifully serene and stylish house, making it the perfect place to live and raise a family. The color scheme of the house is clearly white: the walls, the rug, the curtains, and much of the furniture is white, giving the room a very calming pristine yet chic look. The color brightens up the house and is complimented by the interspersed windows and glass doors, which allow light to enter and illuminate the entire space, giving it an open and outdoorsy feel. One cannot help but feel at peace when stepping into this cloud-like abode. ( source : http://decoholic.org/ )

10 Perfect Transitional Kitchen Ideas (15 Pics)

Image
10 Perfect Transitional Kitchen Ideas (15 Pics) It can be difficult to define the concept of transitional kitchen. The style is meant to break away from the traditional type of kitchen, but the term “transitional” is quite popular in circles that deal with kitchen design. The concept is like a link between classical and modern designs, using aesthetics from each of the two design types. The following 10 tips can be used for designing the perfect transitional kitchen. 1. Use Many Textures Classical kitchens are usually full of color. Transitional designs can use a lot of texture instead, which makes them very interesting and perfect for people who like their kitchen to be a way of exploring different textures. You can use various combinations, such as tile surfaces, polished stones, or rough stones. Any of the surfaces used can provide a nice visual experience. 2. Combine Classical with Modern If you do this, you actually respect the definition of transitional. A com...

8 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR SHELVES CHIC

Image
8 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR SHELVES CHIC Here has hunted down eight key ways to make your shelving as chic as the rest of your home.   CURATE IT Assemble your favourite art, books, travel finds and other eye-catching goodies together in one place. Be sure to pick and choose the most striking pieces you own, and as a general rule, stick to a monochrome palette or complimentary colour scheme – metallic accents with soft hues work particularly well.  FILL A WHOLE WALL For instant impact, supersize your shelves. A full wall of stacking objects, either over a wide section of a room or (if you have high ceilings) right to the top of a room, does most of the hard work for you. Simply add some extra points of interest in the form of earthenware jugs, framed artwork and large glass decanters to complete the look.  EMBRACE THE SYMMETRICAL Whether it's neatly arranged photo frames, stacks of books or decorative vases, symmetrically placed items are a sho...

INTERIOR SPACES - LYON APARTMENT

Image
INTERIOR SPACES - LYON APARTMENT BY DESIGN DUO MAISON HAND. We kept being seduced by images of this amazing French apartment circulating on Instagram recently,  as a result of some heavy-weight Interior Mags ( Elle Decoration UK and  Vogue Living  Australia) featuring it and we just had to join the party! Just in case you haven't seen it of course!   The Apartment is in the Ainay District of Lyon in France and belongs to Pierre Emmanuel Martin and Stéphane Garotin - the design duo behind Interior brand -  Maison  H and . Unlike their previous apartment (a lesson in decorating on the dark side - almost all walls painted in black) this time the complete opposite was desired.   The paint colour is a pale chalky beige specially mixed by a friend's organic paint company - and provides a calm backdrop that highlights the amazing architectural features. The apartment had been owned by the same family for decades, and so a comple...

BLACK HARDWARE

Image
BLACK HARDWARE One of the millions of decisions I look forward to making for our future house is the hardware.  It’s a small detail that can pack a lot of personality and make a big difference.  It’s also something I could totally get into now at the apartment but sometimes I think I enjoy this state of dreaming and “one day” too much.  Weird?  The better explanation is that I’d rather deal with that hassle in a place more permanent, but yes for now we dream! Matte black, guys.  I love it for everything these days and can’t stop, especially in combination with marble aaah.  What do you think of it? With that tile… so dreamy ( source : http://www.homeyohmy.com/ )
